Area code required next year, even for local calls. - Qwest spokesman

I just finished reading this article and I’m pretty annoyed.

“On March 1 of 2009, you will be required to use the 801 before your phone number to complete even a call across the street,”  says a Qwest spokesman.

So apparently as of March 1, 2009 I’m going to have to dial 801 (or 385) before every number I dial, even if it’s just to my brothers room across the hall when I’m asking him if he wants to go eat somewhere. Man, what’s this world coming to? Three more digits to dial! I may as well just sit at my computer desk and wait for my contact to login on my windows live messenger (or skype, or yahoo) so I don’t have to even move a muscle. Maybe I’ll just cancel my Qwest phone subscription altogether. How ya like me now?

In all seriousness though, I think this sucks. I wonder what caused the change.
