Don’t install Magento on Dreamhost.

Dreamhost Does Not Play Well With Magento

Don’t do it!
I can’t speak for a dedicated server on Dreamhost, but definitely, definitely do not install Magento ecommerce on dreamhost shared servers. The speed of both the front-end and back-end will make you want to pull yank your two front teeth out. I’m not kidding. Don’t even mess around with it.

Don’t get me wrong.
Dreamhost has been a great host for the last 10 domains or so I have had, but nothing that I have done thus far has been as demanding on the server as Magento.

Who should I have host my Magento Store?
I did some heavy reading up on the Magento forums, and I came to the conclusion that Simple Helix would probably be the best solution. They are one of the few hosting company’s that brag about being able to handle Magento. I just purchased Simple Helix hosting for a year. I just did the personal account and it ended up being about $100.00 total for a year (that included the dedicated IP).

I’ll post later with an update.
