You’ve signed up for some affiliate networks, you’ve got a few offers you want to promote, and most importantly, you’re super excited to get the ball rolling with your affiliate marketing (wannabe) career! Your next step is probably going to be purchasing a site to feature your offer on. Great!
Don’t be stupid about it! When I first started reading affiliate marketing blogs and drinking the same cool-aid as the high rollers (almost), I went on a domain buying spree. I purchased all sorts of stupid domains. I probably bought at least 10. They were all at like $9.99 apiece (annually). I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again. I suck at math, but even I know that $9.99 adds up pretty quick. That’s $100 bucks that I just dropped on stupid domains that I’ll probably never get around to using.
Being excited is great, but when you’re excited you usually make a lot of stupid decisions too. Before going on a domain buying spree, take a step back. Make sure you have fully researched the offer you want to promote. Research keywords, sites in that niche, and most importantly, use your noggin. This is perhaps the most difficult part of affiliate marketing (not to mention, life). Just remember that the easiest part of any successful affiliate marketing campaign is coming up with, and buying the domain name (genereally speaking). Developing the site (even if it seems simple) and putting your thoughts into a final digital product is the hardest part! Don’t forget that. It’s very easy to buy tons of domains. Just remember, your excitement will rapidly die after you realize the bank you just dropped.
The domains aren’t a complete loss. I’m not a complete noob, and I usually know when I’m making stupid decisions, so I bought some domains that I actually thought I could use. Probably my best choice in a domain purchase lately is MagentoHostingCompany.Com. (This site features a few company’s that host Magento stores.)
Just for the record: Market Leverage is where I’ve made the most money so far in my affiliate marketing career. I would highly recommend them if you’re just getting started with affiliate marketing. If you’re already signed up for Market Leverage, check out some of these other companies.
