My Life, and Pursuit of Becoming A Millionaire

Can’t Remove Private Registration From GoDaddy Cart.

Lets face it. Godaddy sucks! In more ways than one.

I’m trying to move my last two websites (that I started when I was a noob) from Godaddy to my new found glory that is WiredTree hosting. I needed to pay another month for Godaddy hosting to buy myself some time to migrate the files to WiredTree. So I add the hosting and domain renewal to my Godaddy cart, and I realize that there are two additional charges that I can’t “Remove”. They’re the Private Registration that I actually paid to have put on my domains when I was just starting out. What a Ponzi scheme.

The first joke is that Godaddy makes you actually pay for private registration. Second joke is that you can’t easily remove it. I had to call Godaddy and the guy on the phone helped me out. At least they’ve got good customer service going for them. The dude was American and spoke English, so that’s a good sign.

Remove Private Registration

1. Go to http://domainsbyproxy.com

2. Click “My Account”.

3. Sign in using the information that you probably don’t know. I found out my username by searching through my old emails. Your password is just your Godaddy password, so that should be fairly easy.

4. Once you log in, go to “domains” or something and then tick the little box and remove the service. It’s not hard, but definitely harder than just clicking “Remove” in your shopping cart.

Best luck!

I ran into this with GoDaddy, too. Also when I was a noob. I’m now a Host Gator fan, other than that, this is exactly something I could have written!

Host Gator much better than Godaddy? I figured they were next-to-near the same thing.

As far as cheap, dependable hosting goes, I’ve found Host Gator to be great! Not to say I won’t find something else I like better… but for now I’m happy.

this is so lame! what the f**** man!! im getting so irritated! i cant renew my domain name without removing the bloody private registration

You can’t renew it without removing the private registration? Or do you mean that you’re trying to remove the private registration, and it won’t let you?

Either way, I’m not sure what to tell you, dude. Godaddy is a POS. The up sells are a royal pain in the ass, and then when you finally get to the shopping cart, something else goes wrong!

worst yet, they keep you hooked (i am about to delete some domains simply because i forbid to send them email, when their online system doesn’t let me change from private to none private–proving to everyone here that godaddy is about those ladies you see at superbowl. hosting here is a big p.inthe as* stay away from this godaddy, and forget about getting more than 60 visitors a minute on a shared hosting there. they are as cheap as the lady commercial. a few bucks with yahoo hosting is way much better or other hostings. to godaddy : why create a fancy site, yet can’t even let someone change options easily ha ? answer : rip off ! i don’t care. when i get my time, all sites and domains will go to a better place, sorry go—daddy ! go some where.
