Best Magento Hosting Company

You should know by now that Magento is a very powerful, free, beautiful, and spiffy (that one’s from me) shopping cart software. It’s like oscommerce but a billion times better. I have a long history of talking about (and in some cases, talking smack on) Magento hosting company’s here on this blog. Lucky for you I have found another web host that can handle the demands of Magento.

Enter: WiredTree.

I’ve been using WiredTree for the last couple months, and there are three things that come to mind when I reflect on my experience I have had with them thus far:

1. 100% uptime. No, I really mean it. These guys really are up 100% of the time. Ok, if you insist that 100% is impossible, then just give them a try. I was with Simple Helix before and my site(s) went down multiple times each week. Sure, they always sometimes had a good excuse, but that doesn’t solve the problem.

2. Lightening fast support. Yeah, I bet you’ve heard that claim before. I’m betting you’ve seen the “best customer service” banners and the like from the big guys like MediaTemple. Guess what? I was with MediaTemple about a month ago and the best they could manage was one response per day…and I had to wait overnight to get the response to the previous days question. That just sucks. Especially when you have noob questions like I tend to have. Baby steps sums that one up. Here’s the deal: WiredTree is there for you. Really. Noob questions to complicated, they will usually respond within 15 minutes.

3. Magento Compatible. I currently have the Managed VPS1024 plan (previously had the 512 plan and Magento ran fine on it as well). I plan on moving all of my websites over to WiredTree as soon as I get the nerve to do it. If you’re looking for a Magento host, go with WiredTree. Better performance, service, and better people running the organization in general.

Examples of sites hosted on WiredTree:

1. Well….you’re looking at one. EliteEternity.Com is hosted @WiredTree.
2. My new Mallard Skate Shirts Brand website.
3. Tons of my other sites and blogs that I have actually had the time to migrate.

If you’re debating on whether or not to switch web hosts because you think it will be too complicated to move your blog from wherever you’re at to WiredTree, then think again. I’ve created a guide on how to migrate your blog from Dreamhost to WiredTree. The same principles apply if you’re current host isn’t Dreamhost. You can still follow the guide. I also made a guide on how to reconnect your Google Apps to your new WiredTree account. This guide includes simplified information on all of the seemingly complicated CNAME, MX RECORDS, etc.

P.S. Thanks to Justin Dupre for telling me about WiredTree. He has a great affiliate marketing blog that you should check out if you feel so inclined. Are you reading this, Justin? You should comment on one of my posts so I feel cool. I look up to you. lol.

Nathan over at Fluffy Phones just posted about how the folks over at XDA and a few other places have created a patch to allow for us VGA phone users to finally install a working, VGA version of Pandora on our Windows Mobile devices! Although I have yet to test the fix on my Diamond, I’m confident that it will work, and I’m stoked! I’ve been waiting and waiting for a VGA version of Pandora and it looks like it’s finally available thanks to a few code-cracking geniouses.

Maybe this will offset the depression I’ve felt lately due to my inability to activate a Palm Pre on my Sprint SERO plan. lol.

iconspedia

This is the best place I have found on the web for free icons. For some reason, I had never heard of iconspedia before, but I’m definitely going to be visiting this site quite frequently. I just downloaded my sidebar Twitter, and LinkedIn icons from there. Pretty nifty!

I’ve been wanting to give Windows Seven a test drive for some time now, but it looks like my good friend Nathat beat me to it. He just did an awesome review / first impressions of W7 post on his blog and I found it quite interesting. If you’re considering switching to Windows 7, Nathat’s review just may push you over the edge. I know that I want to switch over now.

Good review, Hat.

Are you using Windows 7? I’d like to know your thoughts on it.

I was listening to NickyCakes ASW 09 Panel Audio recording the other day and Nick (or one of the panelists) said that one of his favorite blogs was copyblogger. I checked it out, and I’m now a fan. Just thought I’d let you know.

If you’re in to internet marketing and just happen to have the urge to add another blog to your already massive list of blogs to read, check out copyblogger – copywriting tips for online marketing success.

A couple of my favorite articles so far:

How to write with authority

5 steps to going viral on Twitter

Speedblogging – how to write better posts in less time

Copyblogger has all sorts of great content. Read up.

This isn’t the first time I’ve won one of Zac Johnson’s Twitter contests. Last time I won $100 bucks from the Motive Interactive contest, and this time I won the MoneyReign T-Shirt pack with lots of other sweet stuff! It seems that the slots are loose, as it were with the Zac Johnson Twitter contests!

Freak, it’s so easy to “apply” to win too! All you have to do is Tweet the following statement:

I just entered to win a ton of prizes from ZacJohnson.com! You can too, just follow @moneyreign and retweet http://xr.com/zacblog

If you aren’t already on Twitter, then read my post about why you should use Twitter, and then stop being a non-conformist and get an account! It takes all of two seconds and if for no other reason, sign up to send the Tweet above to enter the Zac Johnson contest.

I love random crap.

I was having a rough time coming up with something clever for a tagline for my new site Ecommerce Hosting Provider, so I settled with “Fast Like An Alien.” What’s so great about that tagline is that nobody can argue with it because nobody knows how fast aliens are, much less if they even exist.

Ecommerce Hosting Provider takes up where my mini Magento blogs left off. I used to own MagentoHostingCompany.Com, HowToInstallMagento.Com and a few others, but I have since dissolved those sites and am in the process of moving those blog posts to the Ecommerce Hosting Provider blog.

After my depressed (nearly emo) post explaining how I ran across the Magento terms and conditions and realized that I wasn’t able to buy a domain name with the word “magento”, one of my commenter’s suggested that I move my sites to a second tier domain name like howtoinstallmagento.eliteeternity.com because Magento didn’t state any restrictions against that. I decided it was a good idea and ran with it.

I went through the blog transfer process and let it slide for a month or so, but between the domain names being like 4 miles long each and the fact that I got tired of posting and maintaining two separate blogs, and my hosting commissions had taken a big hit since I moved the sites, I decided to create a site with a friendly landing page and then a blog that contained all of my Magento and hosting company related posts. This is what EcommerceHostingProvider.Com is.

As you may notice, I still highly recommend Simple Helix for a Magento hosting provider. I know I’ve been hating in my last few posts, but I’ll write another post in the future that reaffirms my allegiance to Simple Helix.

When I first started blogging, plugins were sort of a mystery to me. I would read blogs and wonder how people were doing such cool things. How the heck did they get that “share this” function on there, I thought. I figured everyone that had a blog was some master coder with an intimite knowledge of how to customize and theme their blogs. Fast forward a couple of years, and despite the ugly layout of my blog (hey, I keep it simple for the Google Bot) I’ve got some of the amazing features that I only drooled over at the beginning of my blogtacular career. I exaggerate a bit. It really didn’t take me that long to figure out how plugins work, but I am still learning.

I use most of these plugins here on Elite Eternity as well as on most of my other blogs. Listed in no particular order.

1 – WP Security Scan | Get It Here

Sometimes I get paranoid about the safety of my blog content. Heck, I post nearly 5 times a week and that many posts add up! If all my posts vanished, I would be slightly devistated. I just recently found this sweet wordpress plugin that scans your blog for known security vulnerabilities. If you’re not sure how to fix some of the items it suggests, the software usually provides helpful links. If you still can’t figure something out, feel free to ask me.

2 – WP Page Navi | Get It Here

This cool plugin adds the little number row at the bottom of your blog that allows your users (and the spiders) to see your previous posts easily. Example:

page-navi

3 – WP Post Ratings | Get It Here

You know those little rating stars that you see at the top of every post here on this blog? Well, this is simply a plugin – and a cool one at that. Although people rarely participate in rating my posts, it’s still fun to see what 1 out of a million views will rate your post. It’s completely useless, but it adds a bit of interaction to your blog.

4 – Subscribe Remind | Get It Here

If you’re as desperate for subscribers to your blog as I am, check out this plugin. It adds that little “If you enjoyed this post, make sure you subscribe to my RSS feed!” plug at the bottom of every single post on your blog. Some find it annoying, so this plugin probably isn’t for everyone. Heck, I find it sort of annoying, but I’d rather have it than not.

5 – Share This | Get It Here

This is that amazing plugin I was talking about in the paragraph preceeding this. It’s not magic, just download, install the thing and activate it. This plugin allows people to share your post to all the major bookmarking sites (i.e. digg, reddit, stumbleupon, facebook).

6 – Twitter Tools | Get It Here

Are you a Twitter user? Yeah, me too. This is a pretty neat tool that will automatically post your latest blog post to your Twitter page. I’ve had quite a few hits from people referred from Twitter. I’d say this is one of those plugins that’s definitely worth getting.

7 – Redirection | Get It Here

You know those annoying 404 PAGE NOT FOUND errors? Welcome to the wordpress Redirection plugin. If for some reason, you change the permalink to a blog post and there are links to that particular post on the web somewhere, then this plugin will make sure that the original permalink redirects to the new one. Still don’t get it? Say for instance I wrote a post called I Am Cool. The link to this post may be http://eliteeternity.com/i-am-cool. Now, I go to my facebook page and place that link. Say for some reason, I  change that permalink to be more search engine friendly. I may change that permalink to http://eliteeternity.com/jeremy-is-the-coolest-person-in-the-world. So if I didn’t have the redirection plugin installed and someone on my facebook page tried to go to http://eliteeternity.com/i-am-cool it wouldn’t work. But since I have the Redirection plugin installed, that page would automatically redirect to http://eliteeternity.com/jeremy-is-the-coolest-person-in-the-world. Make sense?

8 – Feedburner Feedsmith | Get It Here

This is a cool plugin for Feedburner (RSS).

9 – SEO Slugs | Get It Here

This plugin automatically takes out common words like ‘a’, ‘the’, ‘in’ from post links. Another SEO oriented tool.

10 – SEM Do Follow | Get It Here

Give your blog commentors some link lovin’. This tool adds a do-follow tag to blog comments. In other words, people will want to comment on your posts more because they can get a link back to their blog – and the Spiders will recognize the link.

Do you have some sweet plugins that you think I missed? Let me know in the comments!

Thanks to yoast’s wordpress seo tips for referring me to a lot of these plugins.

If You’re Going To Buy WordPress Themes, This Is The Place

In my hours of searching for WordPress templates, I don’t know how this site slipped by. Picture of the Week/Month/Year

June 13, 2008

Hey everybody, I’d just like to make a comment on my blog for once in a great while. As you can see I changed the “PICTURE OF THE WEEK” to “PICTURE OF THE WEEK/MONTH/YEAR.” Why? you may ask? Main reason: because I’m too lazy to update the picture every week. It’s too much work, so [...]
