Lets just say this is the first time in a long time I have looked at my money as something to be saved. Something that has actual value. Something that needs to be tracked, monitored, and most importantly – saved.
I just finished the book The Five Lessons A Millionaire Taught Me by Richard Paul Evans. This book was a super simple read. Super simple and inspiring. I have 22 bucks sitting in front of me. The first thought that went through my head when I looked at it just barely was “Hey! Movie, treats, McDonalds, sounds like a night!” The second thought: “Screw that!” I’m happy that I have finally began to beat my apathy towards money.
I completely had an apathetic attitude towards money before reading this book. Sort of the damned if I do, damned if I don’t mentality. I didn’t care to track my money. Didn’t care where it was going. Didn’t care how much I made or spent. A lot has changed now. I’m not saying that I’ve got control of my finances, far from it in fact. This post is just the beginning of a new attitude towards my cash. I just made a spreadsheet for inputting my gains/losses and I plan to be faithful. One of the main points in this book was saving your cash and making it work for you. After all, my goal is to become a millionaire, and that’s exactly what I intend to work towards. One penny at a time from this point on.
You know what I’m going to do with that $22 bucks? I’m going to take it to the bank tomorrow. Sure. Why not? I’ll throw it onto my pile of debt.
In short, the five steps to becoming a millionaire (as far as this book is concerned):
* Decide To Be Wealthy
* Take Responsibility For YOur Money
* Keep A Portion Of Everything You Earn
* Win In The Margins
* Give Back
