The default WordPress search function sucks.
Yoast knows it, and so do a lot of other people. Problem is, most of the solutions out there require editing core code and other crap that I’m too lazy to mess around with.
If you’re looking for a way to make your default WordPress search function suck less, then I strongly recommend you check out a plugin called Relevanssi. I’ve been testing it out on a few of my other blogs and am happy to say that it is a huge improvement over the default WordPress search function. I don’t really know or care how it works, but it improves the search results a lot. Very rarely do I get a “Sorry, but no results were found” page anymore.
This is especially a big deal when somebody is searching your site to find a product that they are in “buying mode” for. Say for instance they misspell a word in their search and your site doesn’t find any matching results. What do they see? A blank page. What do they do? Most likely exit your site and some other affiliate who has his shit together will get the commission for the product they were searching for.
Always looking for better plugins and stuff, so if you have any other suggestions for making the search function better, particularly hacks for the Thesis theme, then hook me up.
