The Best Way To Research A Product Before Purchasing

1. Go to your favorite search engine (ok, just go to google. that’s what we all use. I have learned to bow down to the monopoly).
2. Type in: “[insert name of product you're looking to buy] sucks”.
3. Click “search”.
4. Read what the product/service advertiser doesn’t want you to know.
5. Make an informed decision.

A few products I wish I would have used this technique for:

 - Hosting Services At Dreamhost
 - Logitech’s MX Revolution Wireless Mouse
 - Kensington PilotBoard Wireless Desktop for Mac

If I would have simply typed “sucks” after all of the above product searches, I would have saved tons of cash, and tons of heartache, annoyance, sleepless nights, broken legs, carpel tunnel syndrom, ear aches, natural disasters, world wars, earthquakes, typhoons, nose bleeds, stomach aches, and many other problems that have been a result of purchasing such useless products.

EDIT: The above method also works for outsourcing work to Indian company’s. I hate Indians. Err…Indian Programmers….err…I mean the majority of Indian web design (I can’t believe they call themselves “designers”) company’s.

All You Blogspot Bloggers Out There - Turn Off Your AutoPlay Music!

This post has been long coming.

Most of my family and friends out there have blogspot blogs. Blogspot has made it really easy for all of their special users to add music to their blogspots. Unfortunately, this, like myspace music on profiles, has become a big fad. And an annoying one at that.

My reasoning: The songs starts over each time i navigate from page to page. That isn’t friendly on the ears when 75% of the time I’m commenting on said blogs. The ideal thing would be to just turn the music off. It’s rare that anyone coming to your blog has time to listen to music, much less focus on reading your posts while listening to the music.

Enough Said.

Make The Most Out Of That Old Spice Deoderant

For those times when the economy is in shambles, and you don’t have the cash to buy more deodorant, (or you’re just too lazy to drive all of 50 feet to your local Walmart. Man these times are getting rough.), I’ve developed a life hack you can use. And you don’t even have to give me credit when you use it.

Enter:

If you’re using the same deoderant I am, there is a little plastic cap on top of the dispensor plate (sounds technical, who knows if that’s what it’s called). Smack that on your desk a few times. You’re trying to hit that off. It should losen up a little. At that time, you’ll pry it the rest of the way open with your pocket knife. You can then use the remaining deoderant that is trapped. Good stuff! Just be careful. I just did this and now my hand feels dryer (is that a word?) than the Sahara Desert.

I personally think this post is worthy of lifehacker.com :)

UPDATE:

I just got this from my friend. Made me laugh my head off. I figured I would get at least one person to ask.

Explanation: No, I didn’t just happen to capture a UFO flying across my white board (although I wish I did). The little blimp is just a sweet photoshop brush I decided to stick on there because it had somewhat of a point to it. It is pointing to the leftover deodorant.

I think I got this brush pack off of brusheezy.com. It was free, but I don’t remember who the original author is. Credit to whomever deserves it.

And I Thought I Was Anxious To Eat

What in the world has gotten into these Iranians?

My Summary: An attempt to make the worlds largest sandwich is crushed by anxious-to-eat onlookers. What a joke!

Read the full story here:

If this story is a late April fools joke, I’m going to be disappointed.

Big Money! Time To Retire!

My site is worth $86.
How much is yours worth?

There are all sorts of website worth calculators out there. Just last night, my friend told me that my site was worth like $2,000. I figured that sounded a little far-fetched, so I decided to google for a (possibly more accurate) website calculator. Turns out my site is worth $86.00. *play depressed trumpet music here* Who is that site to tell me what my site is worth!?

Oh well, I wasn’t planning on striking it rich here. This is where I try to help people strike it rich themselves. Lets all become millionaires together. In the meantime, any takers on $86.00 for this site? ;)

Excellent Example Of LinkBait - Why All Successful Affiliates Should Vote For McCain.

Congrats, Jon.

Consider my site among many of the proud linking to your LinkBait.

Why All Successful Affiliates Should Vote For McCain

This really is a great example of LinkBait. Check it out. I’m sure Jon has gained many more subscribers to his blog than he lost making such “ridiculous claims”. I think it’s funny, and even if it is “outrageous”, there are quite a few points I would have a hard time disagreeing with.

It’s Official - Dreamhost Sucks

So does Logitech’s MX Revolution Laser Mouse, but we’ll get to that in a later post. I have a total of 32 domains hosted with dreamhost, and I woke up this morning (okay, this afternoon) and every single one of them was down. What’s more? I went to dreamhost.com to see what was up, perhaps put in a support ticket, and lo and behold: Dreamhost.com was down too! Blow me away!

My satisfaction has been slowly declining with dreamhost. Just about all of my domains are slow (including this one most of the time) and I’m starting to wish I would have started out with a different company. Now I’m sort of stuck as I don’t want to take the time (or money) to transfer all the domains to a different registrar. My advice, do some research before you go with any hosting company. SimpleHelix is a very good option, a bit more expensive, but they’re quick. Or, if you decide to go with dreamhost even after my bad experience, at least sign up with my affiliate link and get me some cash. :)

Finding A Niche - The Easy Way

I must laugh at myself and at the title of this post. I write as if I know how to find a niche! The truth is: I’m working on it. I have been trying really hard lately to come up with a good niche idea (offer). Affiliate blogs everywhere tell the wayward noob (as I am) to begin by thinking of things you enjoy doing. Then turning what you enjoy doing into a thriving website, or something of the like.

That’s great advice, but I think I have some better advice for beginner affiliates in my position. You know the wild dreams you’re having about what you’re going to do with all that affiliate cash once you strike it rich? How about that nice new Corvette, or that brand new, high-end computer you’re going to treat yourself with. Think of those items, and focus on them. Focus on the Corvette. Make a website about it, or focus on a certain part for the Corvette, then run with it. You have the idea of what you want, and the drive (no pun intended) to make the site successful because that’s exactly what you’re going to reward yourself with once you “make it”.

I hope this made sense. It’s another late night, and I’m just trying to figure this whole affiliate thing out for myself. Take my advice for what its’ worth.

Does Google Analytics Track Organic VS PPC Traffic From Other Networks? MSN / Yahoo

Requesting your Elite Advice:

These are the Traffic Sources stats for an affiliate campaign I’m running. I have paid for PPC traffic on MSN/Live and for some reason it’s showing up as “organic” traffic. Is this normal? I’m quite sure I’m really not getting 573 visits organically from MSN or I would be banking. Anybody have any insight into this?
