My Life, and Pursuit of Becoming A Millionaire

Being Lazy Is The Worst Thing You Can Be

It’s natural to be lazy. At least it is for me.

When’s the last time you were lazy? Today, yesterday, last week, right now reading my blog!? Knock it off! Being lazy will slaughter you!

There are so many times that I almost didn’t promote a product just because I thought it looked stupid, or I figured it wouldn’t go anywhere. But then something happened. A light-bulb switched on between my ears. I realized that I was being lazy and was trying to rationalize and give myself valid reasons to not push the product. Sure, the product may not look like a top-seller, but what the heck do I know about top-sellers? Henry Ford sold tons of those lame Model-T Automobiles or whatever they were. I never would have seen that one coming. ;)

Anyways, I’d dare say that I’ve made more money in my affiliate marketing career on products that I didn’t think would do well, than I have with the products that I knew would be top-sellers. Imagine if I would have gone with my lazy gut and just not pushed the product? I would have lost out on thousands of dollars. I guess what happened is that all of the other lazy affiliates out there had the same first impressions as I did. They figured it wouldn’t do well, were too lazy, and decided not to push it. Sucks for them. :)

Not being lazy in this industry will definitely give you the edge, and will pay off. I promise you.

Organic Affiliate Marketing: Google Yourself Often

Moral of this post: Watch out for those young whippersnappers that bid on your offer keywords when they’re not supposed to.

Rightnow I have a website that is doing ridiculously well. And when I say ridiculously, I mean it. Ridiculous as in $200 bones a day, 7 days a week. It’s almost turned into a game lately. I’ll think to myself, “how much money can I make while I’m at church today?” Or, “how much will I be able to make before I wake up tomorrow morning?” Just little mind games like that. Anyways, back to the point! [Continue reading...]

Affiliate Marketing is My Future. Cash Money.

I hate to brag, but that’s exactly what I’m about to do.

When I first started affiliate marketing, I saw the whole Affiliate world as a big Ponzi scheme. I wasn’t too far off, but that’s beside the point. I never realized how much money there was to be made until I started reading up on the big affiliate marketing blogs. I signed up for Market Leverage under Zac Johnson, and away I went. Fast forward 10 months, and here I am.

I just paid cash for a Lamborghini, and I’m currently typing this blog post on the beach of Florida from my brand new MacBook Pro. Not really, but I can see it happening in the future. Last month’s affiliate income was a meager $800 or so (from my main site which I’ve been paying a bit of attention to lately). But that meager amount put a pretty big smile on this Utah Entrepreneur’s face.

So July ends. August – my new pay period begins. Guess what, my friends? I’ve made nearly $800 this month so far, on just one of my websites! Guess what else? It’s only the 5th day of August. Know what that means? I’ve made an average of roughly $160 a day so far this month. Remember when I posted my affiliate marketing goal for this year of $150.00 per day? Yeah, I’m a couple days late. Okay, a couple months. But I’m finally on track to make that goal a reality! What’s great about me bragging like this is the fact that I guarantee most other affiliates will laugh their heads off at the amount I’m making right now. But hey, it’s definitely a start, and I’m not planning on quitting any time soon!

P.S. The money I’m bragging about was brought upon without paying a penny for traffic. My sweet SEO skills are paying off.

You should learn affiliate marketing. Sign up for Market Leverage and some other cash-generating networks, then email me for tips on where to go from there.

A rather large milestone for this Affiliate Marketer.

So I started affiliate marketing around August of last year and I’ve learned a lot, made a lot of mistakes (like losing nearly $500 bucks overnight with PPC advertising), and have had a lot of fun in the process.

I’ve been working on a site that I bought around August of last year when I started marketing and I’ve found quite a bit of success in it lately. I really never planned that it would go this big, but I made over $500 bucks last month just off of this site! This particular site is all natural and I have paid $0.00 in advertising – ppc, or otherwise! Needless to say, I’m rather happy about the success that site has brought and I’m working on replicating that site in various niches to see if I can duplicate my success.

I know that the money making potential of said site isn’t going to dry up any time soon, because so far this month it has brought in around $100.00. :) Plus, I just found another affiliate network that has a lot more offers in the niche I’m working in!

If you’re thinking about getting in to affiliate marketing, I would highly recommend it! It’s fun to learn and the chances of success and making bank are high if you stick with it!

Another math lesson for all you people who doubt the power of making money online:

1 site that makes $500 a month = $500 a month.
2 sites that make $500 a month each = $1,000 a month.
3 sites that make $500 a month each = $1,500 a month.
4 sites that make $500 a month each = $2,000 a month.
5 sites that make $500 a month each = $2,500 a month.

My new goal: 5 sites that do a minimum of $500 a month each in pure profit by the end of 2009. This will make me $2,500 a month and $30,000 a year.

That’s not bad in my opinion. Especially when you consider that I’m probably going to get a ‘real’ job some time in the near future and I’ll at least make $1,500 a month from that.

I think this goal is more realistic than my last goal. I have tasted blood. $500 bucks from one site for a whole month may not sound like a lot to some of you people, but it makes me happy. There is no stopping this Affiliate Marketer – soon to be one of those ‘rich jerks.’ :)

Sincere Plug: None of my success with said site would have been possible without Market Leverage – The affiliate network that rocks. My affiliate manager is cool too, even though I never answer her calls. Sorry Melissa! ;) Sign up with Market Leverage if you’re thinking about learning Affiliate Marketing!

Quick Tips:

I’ve had a few emails lately from people that read my blog. It’s been nice and cool to hear from you guys! These people have all been watching affiliate marketing from somewhat of a distance and contacted me, more or less, for advice. I tell them all different things, but one thing in common that I tell everyone that emails me is to just start! Start with a blog – a blog about your online adventures. Write content. Get on Google’s radar and get some page rank (PR) behind your blog. Then start making other blogs and throwing products on them, with your affiliate link, of course. To do this you will need to sign up with one of the affiliate marketing companies that are on the sidebar of my blog >>> (I obviously suggest starting with Market Leverage). Then get tons of links to your affiliate blog from other websites. Just get going! And if you’re not old enough (18) yet to start affiliate marketing for ‘reals,’ just start making blogs that you think you will make money from when you can sign up for the affiliate networks. The longer your site exists and the more content you have on your site, the more important Google will think you are, thus influencing your natural (organic) rankings.

Hop to it!

If you’re new to affiliate marketing, you will probably want to read Zac Johnson’s Affiliate Marketing blog. I started affiliate marketing after reading his blog and besides the good information that he provides, he’s a cool guy.

Example Of A Sucky Landing Page . . . For Affiliates

…a great landing page for the company featuring the offer. They don’t have to pay any commission!

So I run an affiliate site called ### – A site that features all of the latest ###. Sometimes I write a sentence about a product, sometimes I write a paragraph. No matter how much I write I always include the little affiliate banner that when people click, I get a commission if the browser buys – or do I?

This offer has been super-hot lately. I track the site using Google Analytics and I had a huge spike in traffic. I looked at the keyword and it was obvious to see that the offer I had listed on the site had just been featured on tons of media (I had even seen the offer on Prime Time TV while eating at Arbys the other night) and I was excited to cash in on all the sweet targeted traffic I brought to the offer, right? Wrong.

The Graph of the traffic spike:

I checked my stats today on Market Leverage (my favorite affiliate network), expecting to at least have made $50 – $100 bucks in conversions, but I had only made a measly $11.00 or something like that. What a joke, I thought. Then I realized something: The landing page must have a freaking telephone number on it!

I checked, and sure enough. “Order below, or call:”……so where do you think all of my qualified leads went? They ordered alright, but they called the company instead of completing the purchase on the site that I sent them to.

call-to-order

This just sucks. Now, considering the 5 minutes I spent writing that post on ###, an $11.00 commission may seem worth it, but $100.00 would have made me a lot happier this morning.

Will I still promote offers that have phone numbers on their landing pages? Yeah, I will for the ### site because it only takes a matter of minutes to post. But let this be a lesson to all of you affiliates or wannabees. Check out the landing page before spending time making a campaign – especially if it’s a PPC campaign! I would have been tons more angry if I had spent money sending traffic to the offer through PPC, but the traffic was all organic, so that helped soften the blow.

Consider yourself warned.

WTF Is Google Ad Auction?

If you’re an affiliate marketer, or use Google Adwords at all, you may want to check out the video below taken from Google’s latest blog post. There seems to be a lot of confusion surrounding the process that Google takes to determine who pays how much and why for ad positioning using Adwords. The process [...]

My Affiliate Marketing Goal For The New Year

I just got another payment from a company called CX Digital (affiliate company) which reminded me about the goal I posted on my whiteboard. My goal is to earn $150.00 a day, 7 days a week by January 20, 2009. This is a pretty big step as I’m only making around $25 net a day. [...]
